๐ง A Young Dreamer from Eral
Kavin Selva Ganesh, born in Eral town of Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu, was a bright, dedicated young man. From childhood, he was known for his discipline, kindness, and dreams of building a better life through education.
He belonged to the Devendra Kula Vellalar community, classified as a Scheduled Caste (SC). Despite the challenges of caste identity, Kavin never let it define his potential.
๐ Rising Through Education and Hard Work
After completing his schooling and engineering, Kavin secured a job as an IT professional at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Chennai. He was the pride of his family—a first-generation tech worker paving the path forward.
๐ A Love Beyond Caste
While pursuing his career, Kavin was in a long-standing romantic relationship with S. Subhashini, a Siddha medical practitioner from the Maravar (Most Backward Class) community. Despite social differences, their love was built on equality and mutual respect.
Unfortunately, Subhashini’s family reportedly did not approve of the relationship due to caste differences.
⚖️ The Brutal Attack – July 27, 2025
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Kavin accompanied his grandfather to a private clinic in KTC Nagar, Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli. There, he was reportedly lured outside by S. Surjith, Subhashini’s younger brother.
Surjith allegedly attacked Kavin with a sickle, chasing him for 200 meters in broad daylight while shouting caste-based slurs. Kavin died on the spot.
๐ฎ Involvement of Police Officers
Surjith, aged 21–23, surrendered and was arrested soon after. The FIR also named his parents—Saravanan and Krishnakumari, both Sub-Inspectors of Police—as co-accused. They were later suspended, but not immediately arrested.
๐งพ Legal Action and Charges Filed
An FIR was registered under:
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – for murder and criminal conspiracy
- SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2015 – for caste-based hate crime
The state offered compensation to Kavin’s family, which they rejected, demanding justice, not charity.
๐ข A Family’s Grief, A Nation’s Silence
"How will ₹5 lakh bring back my son? Arrest the real criminals." – Kavin’s mother
The family has refused to accept his body until all responsible are held accountable. This emotional protest has resonated across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
๐ฅ Public Outrage and Protests
Social organizations, student groups, and Dalit rights activists protested across Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, demanding:
- Arrest of all accused, including the police officers
- CBI investigation
- An end to caste-based violence
This case is seen as yet another tragic instance of “honour killing”—a term too often used to justify caste hatred.
๐ง Reflection: Are We Still Slaves to Caste?
India talks about Digital India, Chandrayaan, and AI. But in 2025, a man is murdered in public because of caste?
We chant “One Nation, One Identity”. But caste is our silent divider.
❓ A Final Question to the Youth of India
- Are we truly free?
- If education, jobs, and urban living cannot save someone from caste hatred—what can?
- Should love be punished by knives?
- When will “Human” become the only caste?
๐ฎ๐ณ One Caste. One Nation. One Future.
This is not a call to forget our roots. It’s a call to end the hierarchy.
No upper caste. No lower caste. Just one caste: Indian.
Let Kavin’s story remind us: a young life full of promise was destroyed not by an enemy—but by prejudice.
It’s time to say:
- We want One Nation.
- We want One Caste: Humanity.
- We want One Future: United.
